Did you know that … ‘Pils’ is always a beer but beer is not always a pils? Pils is the name of a type of beer – and there’s many different types!
Pils is also called Pilsener and is the most popular beer in the Netherlands. Some people call a beer a ‘pils’, which may be quite confusing – as they’re definitely not the same!
The difference is very simple and can be summarized in two sentences:
Bier is a beverage.
Pils is a type of beer.
So there are many other types of beer besides pils. Remember: ‘Pils’ is always a beer – a beer is not always a pils.
